INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
Checks
1. Wood Flooring requires flat sub-floors. Do not consider if floors are uneven unless you do not mind very squidgy floorboards. Check level/straightness of sub-floor with spirit level if necessary. Correct where necessary with a builders levelling compound.
2. Leave wood at room temperature before laying. This ensures wood is acclimatised to rooms in which it is laid. If wood is coming out of cold storage in winter allow 48 hours at normal room temperatures, but common sense measures mean that it is important that rooms should have normal heating prior to installation, and all plastering, concrete is dry before wood floors are installed.
Installation:
1. Remove furniture. Sweep/clean sub-floor.
2. If sub-floor is concrete, lay waterproof plastic sheeting. Do not lay over carpet. Can be laid over tiles and wood.
3. Lay Foam underlay. 2mm minimum thickness, up to 4mm. This can also be a sound proof underlay boarding if preferred. This gives extra cushioning, heat retention and insulation qualities.
4. Lay boards in direction of the light i.e. away from windows. Lay first panel with groove against the wall. Place a "spacer" between the board and the wall. This allows for natural possible expansion. 10 mm space between wall and floor board is recommended.
When "staggering" the boards, always allow 30cm minimum length of contact between two joined boards.
Use a pencil and ruler to draw lines for cuts to be made.
Use a special 40cm long iron peg/lever to ease boards in at ends.
5. Draw with pencil around position of pipes for radiators etc. Allow a cut of 10mm greater than pipe diameter to also allow for expansion room.
6. Cut boards according to lengths required.
Use set square to ensure
straightness.
Place "spacers" between walls and boards.
7. Apply glue to grooves, all along, top and bottom of groove.
8. Place board to be fitted/glued flat on floor next to board to be joined. Where boards have been cut to sizes required, ensure that at least 30cm of a board is attached to joining boards.
Line up correctly where to be fitted, and gently press together.
Use
protective block between hammer and board to hammer together.
9.Allow glue to ooze out between boards, then wipe off excess with a damp cloth.
10. Apply wedges between walls and boards and leave in place until glue dries before removing.
11. Skirting boards and doorway edgings can be nailed to walls covering the
expansion gap between the walls and boards.
Wood scotias or quadrants can be
nailed or glued to existing skirting boards to cover expansion gap.
Cuts made around radiator pipes can be filled in behind with small wood cuts from the original piece cut out.
Special wood or plastic covers can be placed around the pipe masking the required gap.
12. Furniture and walking on floor can take place after a minimum of 4 hours after gluing of boards. We prefer overnight time to allow glue to bond.
13. Felt Furniture protector pads should be fitted under furniture
CLEANING AND CARE OF YOUR FLOATING WOOD FLOORING 1. Vacuum.
2. Wipe occasionally with damp cloth and mild detergent. Wipe dry immediately afterwards.
3. Keep dry.
Re-sanding is possible...
Fine sandpaper , sanding along the wood grain.
Vacuum. Wipe with damp
cloth. Allow to dry. Do not re-lacquer while damp, wood grain is raised by water
Apply special lacquer.
Leave to dry for 24 hours before replacing
furniture.
Re-sanding professionally removes about 1mm of the top layer.
